Meditation doesn’t mean you need to sit like a Buddhist monk with a crystal clear thoughtless mind for an hour.. that’s a myth. Meditation is about creating a different relationship to your thoughts- just for short periods at a time.
So instead of letting your mind run free, you observe your thoughts from a 3rd perspective, which gives you space from them and eventually control of them.
This is essential for controlling arousal, because you need to be in control of your thoughts and emotions or you will get anxious.
Meditation doesn’t need to be a spiritual or religious thing if you don’t want it to be. A quick Google search will show you countless articles validating the overall benefits that meditation can bring to your health, happiness and prejacking.
The easiest way to start is with a guided meditation- try an app called Head Space, Calm.com or Stop, Breath & Think, all top rated apps in the app store.
The book “The Power Of Now” by Eckhart Tolle is also an excellent resource for learning to monitor your thoughts and regulate your emotions.
The major key is to be present and control your breathing with long exhales to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
